Meet Ayperi

Ayperi by Jon Reece 2009 Ayperi is a belly dance teacher performer of singular skill. She has made her mark in Portland and beyond.

Her 2008 performance at the largest East coast belly dance festival, Rakkasah East, was photographed for the front page of the Gilded Serpent, the foremost Middle Eastern dance magazine in America.

Enamoured of the joy inherent to belly dance, its challenging technique and a world of music, Ayperi has immersed herself. In addition to regular study with local masters, she regularly travels to events around the country, including a 2010 weeklong professional intensive with Aziza of Montreal and a 2007 weeklong with Morocco of New York City.

Classically trained in dance since childhood, Ayperi studied pre-professional ballet at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick, MA, preceded by education from childhood at the Maine Dance Center in Ellsworth, ME. Her ballet education enhances her belly dance performance, creating a unique and elegant style.

Ayperi holds a BA from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY, where she studied liberal arts with an emphasis on French language. She is also a graphic and web designer.

Teacher, Producer, Host

Ayperi performs, teaches weekly classes & produces events in southern Maine.

Raqs Borealis, Ayperi's quarterly event featuring professional belly dance performance and live music, is the first ongoing belly dance event of its kind in Portland, with standing room-only since its inception in 2008.

For three years running, Ayperi has hosted star dancers from New York to San Francsiso in Portland: Michelle Joyce in 2010, Autumn Ward in 2009 and Mira Betz in 2008.

Accompanying each annual workshop is a stage show at Portland's favorite venue, One Longfellow Square, featuring the city's top entertainers in dance and music.
